First Sudoku: where to play, and how to use a hint

Most people meet logic puzzles through Sudoku. This is about getting a grid on the screen, not a contest syllabus.

Read the type page, then pick one site

The Sudoku page under How to play covers rules, how to start, and where players get stuck. Then do not register five sites: Sudoku.com for a daily habit, Web Sudoku if you want it bare, Sudoku Fans or Sudoku Home if you read Chinese. If you read German, Sudoku Knacker is a better bet than another English-language site. The full list lives under Where to play → Sudoku.

A hint should explain the next step, not fill the grid

Most hint buttons just fill in the digit. That teaches you nothing — you get the digit, not the reason. If you stall for more than two minutes, open SudokuWiki in Solvers & tools: it says why a cell is 7. After two or three basic eliminations, variants can wait.

What next

When a classic 9×9 feels automatic, open Sudoku variants or the killer / X type pages. If you want a new type each day, go back to All-in-one portals. Our Sudoku list is ordered by sites we actually return to, not by traffic.
