Classic Sudoku feels thin: which variant first
A variant is not a harder classic. One extra rule changes the path. Each variant has its own type page here.

Add one rule, not four
Killer and X sit closest to the board you already know — open those type pages first. Jigsaw changes the regions; arrow and thermo change how a clue looks. CTC is for watching a grid come apart, not for a bank. The Chinese variant boards update often; grids usually land in f-puzzles. Sites live under Where to play → Sudoku variants.
Building and playing are different jobs
To change a rule or write a grid with a friend, use f-puzzles or SudokuPad under Solvers & tools. The variant list is for sites you can play on. When the rule stack is unreadable, go back to a single extra rule. That beats another “everything” grid.
Where KenKen sits
KenKen and Kakuro look like cages, but they are not Sudoku variants — they live under Number & arithmetic, each with its own type page. Stay here if you are a Sudoku player adding a twist; go to arithmetic if you came for the cages.
