Kurodoko — rules and where to play

KURODOKO · Kuromasu (close relative) / Black Where

Same family as Kuromasu, but the digit counts every white cell visible along the row and column — the sightline runs further, so it bites harder.

Rules

  1. A numbered cell is white; the digit counts white cells in its row and column, itself included once.
  2. Black cells block the view and are not counted.
  3. Black cells may not touch edge to edge.
  4. All white cells must be connected.

How to start

Lock down every 1

A 1 is walled in on all four sides, which is a very strong boundary condition.

Let big digits rule out blacks

The larger the digit, the fewer places along its row and column can be black.

Close on connectivity

Late game, almost every call comes down to "this would cut the whites in two".

Where players get stuck

  • Counting the clue cell twice at the row/column crossing.
  • Mixing the rule up with Kuromasu — their sightlines differ.
