Rules
- A walled network with separate entrance and exit.
- Goal: find a path that never crosses a wall.
- Difficulty comes from branches and loops, not complex rules.
- Some maze puzzles add keys, one-way doors, or require visiting every cell once (a path that is also a tour).
How to start
Use the right-hand rule as backstop
Keep the right wall, you exit simple mazes with no isolated loops.
Search from the exit too
Two-way beats one-way, especially in large mazes.
Mark dead ends
Note explored dead ends to avoid looping.
Sketch the dual
On paper mazes, light pencil marks on corridors beat pure memory.
Where players get stuck
- Picking branches at random and getting messier.
- Not marking dead ends and spinning in the same loop.
- Forcing the right-hand rule on mazes with islands (it can fail when walls are not connected).
