Rules
- A sequence of numbers, shapes or symbols is given.
- Goal: find the rule and give the next item or fill the gap.
- The rule may be arithmetic, geometric, alternating, or cross-dimensional (rotation).
How to start
Difference the neighbours first
Sequences: take differences; it often reveals arithmetic or second-order laws.
Check for alternation
Odd and even positions each following a law is a frequent trap.
Change dimension
Figure puzzles: look beyond count — rotation, symmetry, layers often key.
Where players get stuck
- Watching one law only and missing odd/even alternation.
- Taking a coincidence for a law on too small a sample.
